Terms of use

Mister Download Manager is free software. These terms are short because the GNU General Public License already says most of it.

Last updated 2026-10-31

In short

  • You may use, copy, change and share Mister Download Manager under the GNU GPL, version 3.
  • It comes without any warranty: use it at your own risk.
  • Download only what you have the right to. You are responsible for what you download and share.
  • MDM is not affiliated with Tonec Inc. or Internet Download Manager.

1. Who we are

Mister Download Manager ("MDM", "the software") and the website misterdownloadmanager.com ("the site") are made by Ahmed Nefzaoui and contributors ("we"). By using the software or the site you accept these terms. If you don't, please don't use them.

2. The software's licence

The software is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 ("GPL"). The GPL governs your rights to run, study, copy, change and share it, and nothing in these terms takes away any right the GPL gives you. If these terms and the GPL ever disagree about the software, the GPL wins.

The software is free of charge. Anyone selling it to you, or asking you to pay to "unlock" it, is not us.

3. Using it responsibly

MDM is a tool, like a web browser. You agree to use it lawfully, and in particular:

You alone are responsible for the files you download and for how you use the software.

4. Third-party components

MDM can download and run third-party tools at your request: yt-dlp for video pages and ffmpeg for merging video and sound. They come from their developers' official releases, are checked before they run, and are governed by their own licences (yt-dlp: Unlicense; ffmpeg: LGPL or GPL, depending on the build). The libraries built into MDM and their licences are listed on the License page. Websites and services you download from are governed by their own terms.

5. No warranty

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. The entire risk as to its quality and performance is with you. See sections 15 and 16 of the GPL. Keep backups of anything important.

6. Limitation of liability

To the extent allowed by law, we will not be liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the software or the site, including lost data, lost profits, or downloads that fail, are incomplete or are harmful. Some places don't allow limiting certain liability; there, our liability is limited as far as the law allows.

7. Names and logos

"Mister Download Manager", "MDM" and the MDM logo identify this project. You may use them to refer to the project, and to name unmodified copies you distribute. If you distribute a changed version, please give it a different name and logo so people aren't confused about who made it; the GPL still applies to the code.

Internet Download Manager and IDM are trademarks of their owner. We name them only to describe and compare, as allowed by law. MDM is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Tonec Inc. and contains none of Internet Download Manager's code, artwork or text.

8. The site

The site's content is provided for information. We try to keep it accurate, including the comparisons and benchmark figures, which are documented with their methods and raw data, but we can't guarantee it is always complete or up to date. Tell us about mistakes and we'll fix them. Links to other sites are for convenience; we don't control them.

9. Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top says when. Changes apply from then on and are recorded in the project's public history on GitHub.
